Job description : UECBV secretariat, based in Brussels, Belgium is currently seeking to hire a Veterinary Advisor to follow veterinary issues related to the meat industry and livestock trade sector (e.g. Animal Health and Welfare, Public Health and Food Safety).

Main tasks for the Veterinary Advisor: Collecting, monitoring, assessing and reporting on all veterinary matters related to the meat and livestock sectors; Organising, managing and reporting UECBV working groups and committee meetings on various veterinary issues; Presenting the position of UECBV at the different platforms related to veterinary issues; Drafting reports and policy papers and updating data weekly on the animal health situation in Europe; Research and monitoring of the EU Institutions’ activities regarding veterinary issues; Attend and prepare reports on policy conferences and institutional meetings, e.g. EU Commission and Parliament Committees, high level conferences on various veterinary issues; Assistance with responses to members’ requests.

Ad hoc projects: The veterinary advisor may also be involved in the preparation and organisation of larger projects, such as general assemblies, inter-professional working groups and international conferences.

Profile: University degree in Veterinary Medicine; Experience in veterinary policies, agriculture, livestock and meat trade fields are a plus; Work experience in EU institutions (internship) is a plus; Good understanding of EU procedures and knowledge of EU legislation on veterinary issues; Fluent in verbal and written English and at least one other EU language; Pro-active approach and team work oriented; Good networking skills; Good knowledge of Microsoft Office package; Flexibility and willingness to learn.
