Working Groups & Working Parties
Working Groups may be drawn up if the need arises and play a key role in FVE decision making. They are appointed to deal with a particular subject and during a defined period. Experts are selected from nominations received from FVE members on the basis of CV’s.
FVE strives to ensure that the composition of the group is balanced in terms of geographical coverage and working fields.
Curently FVE has the following Working Groups & Working Parties:

Food safety - Hygiene

Mandate:

This group, which originated from the meat inspection working group, has as aim to provide a critical and independent analysis of the food safety policy of the European Union and on broad food safety issues of European-wide concern. In particular they deal with the implementation and revision of the hygiene package, BSE/TSE control, zoonotic issues, audits/inspections and meat inspection.

This Group was formed in July 2002 and revised last April 2011.

Medicines

Mandate:

The Working Group on Medicines was revised in the beginning of 2009. Its tasks are all issues relating to medicines and the availabilty of veterinary medicines in particular. Currently the MRL legislation and the revision of the Medicines Directive (2001/82/EC) as well as the use of antimicrobials and the extension of the list of products for the treatment of (food producing) horses are amongst the most important items the group works on.

Transport

Mandate:

Transporting live animals over long distance is already for decades a great concern for animal welfare and still stays today. The working group on transport greatly contributed to the Regulation No 1/2005 on the protection of animals during transport. It also contributed to the abolishment of export refunds for live animals. After the adoption of the Regulation the group continued to work on implementation issues and currently already on the revision of the transport Regulation.

This long standing group was formed in 2001 and was revised in 2009.

Statutory Bodies
code of conduct

Mandate:

The mandate of the Statutory Bodies Working Group is to assist FVE in developing a harmonised position with regard to the regulation of the veterinary profession in Europe and to other related international recommendations (e.g. OIE). Further to act as a facilitator for the exchange of information between national Competent Authorities, in particular in relation to the international movement of veterinary services, and to support Member States in the development of their regulations on the provisions of veterinary services.

The group was formed in January 2010

EBVPD - European Board for Veterinary Professional Development

Mandate:

EBVPD is a non-profit making organisation and its purpose is to set up and monitor minimum standards for the acknowledged veterinarian programs across Europe. The objective is to bring transparency, ensure quality of continuous professional development (CPD) programs, harmonise different national systems and promote mutual recognition among countries. Most notably its mission is:

- To establish and harmonise CPD standards for acknowledged veterinarians programmes in the different areas of veterinary profession
- To evaluate post-graduate training courses and programmes
- To certify existing programs according to the established standards

ECOVE - European Committee of Veterinary Education (former JEC)
Mandate:

For many years, EAEVE together with FVE runs evaluation visits of veterinary teaching establishments. The objective of the Evaluation system is to help ensure a comparable level of veterinary training in Europe, as laid down by Directive 2005/36/EC (DA, DE, EL, EN, ES, FI, FR, IT, NL, PT, SV). To this end, the EAEVE and FVE arranges for teams of veterinary experts to carry out evaluation visits to veterinary schools and faculties in Europe.
After the visit, reports are submitted to the European Committee of Veterinary Education (ECOVE), consisting of members of EAEVE and FVE, who will then formally adopt the report. If a school has no category one deficiencies it can apply to be put on the "List of visited and approved faculties" (The positive list).

The Committees shall be appointed for a two-years term and may be re-appointed no more than twice. Not all members shall be changed at the same time.

ECCVT – European Coordinating Committee for Veterinary Training

Mandate:

The three organisations the “European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education” (EAEVE), the “European Board for Veterinary Specialisation” (EBVS) and FVE all have a strong interest in the training of veterinarians in Europe. To coordinate their goals and actions, the boards of directors and executive committees of the three organisations meet regularly. For this purpose, 2 joint committees were developed. The first one is the Joint Education Committee (see above) which looks upon the evaluation reports. The second one, the European Coordinating Committee for Veterinary Training (previously Joint Policy Committee) has a more political remit; it can propose policies of joint interest, which relate to recognition of the professional - especially professional qualification, continuing development and specialisation, - to the three boards.

The Committees shall be appointed for a two-years term and may be re- appointed no more than twice. Not all members shall be changed at the same time.
