UEVH - Union of European Veterinary Hygienists
|
 At
a meeting of public health veterinarians held in Paris during October
1966, the decision was taken to create an European organisation called
the 'Association européenne des directeurs d'abattoirs publics'.
The first General Assembly of this new veterinary organisation was
held on the 1st July 1967 in Geneva.
During 1976, the Association changed its statutes in order to become
eligible for membership of the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe
and adopted its current name.
The aims of the 'Union' as stated in the statutes are:
- to study and recommend any measures permitting the improvement
of the quality and safety of foodstuffs with the objective of the
protection of veterinary public health and improving conditions
for humans, by using veterinary science, and
- to promote the role of the veterinarian in the whole of the foodchain,
from stable to table.
The UEVH has twenty full member delegations representing veterinarians
from twenty European countries with, in addition, the World Association
of Veterinary Food Hygienists and Argentina attending as observers.
While the majority of delegates are employed in the provision of
enforcement of controls in foods of animal origin others come from
a background of national and European policy development, research,
industry and academia.
