| The FVE Board consists of a President, a treasurer
and three Vice Presidents. The President and its Board are elected
for two years and can be re-elected twice. The FVE Board meets several
times a year to discuss current issues and FVE's strategy. |

Walter Winding - President |
Walter Winding has been since June 2007 President of the Brussels-based Federation of Veterinarians of Europe, the umbrella organisation of veterinary organisations from 35 European countries which represents the veterinary profession in Europe.
He graduated in 1971 in the University of Vienna. He obtained a PhD in the University of Viena in 1973. Dr Winding worked for 9 years as Assitant Professor in the Clinic for Gynaecology, Andrology in the Veterinary Faculty of the University of Vienna.
He became a State Veterinary Officer in 1978 in Zell am See, Land Salzburg. Since 1979 he also works as a private practitioner and is Head of department of Public Health in Zell am See. From 1975 to 1978 he represented the veterinary profession as member of the board of the Veterinary Chamber of Vienna. He also was member of the Veterinary Chamber of Salzburg from 1984 to 1988. He was elected president of the Veterinary Chamber of Salzburg in 1988. Since 1997 he is vice president of the Veterinary Chamber of Austria.
In 1991 he became a delegate of Austria in EASVO (European Association of State Veterinary Officers). In 2001 he was elected board member of EASVO and in 2003 vice-president and treasurer of FVE. In June 2007 he was elected as President of FVE.
As FVE President Dr Winding is in charge of following up Animal Welfare projects, new Animal Welfare legislation and Council of Europe and OIE developments in Animal Welfare. He also follows up education issues, in particular matters regarding ECCVT (European Coordinating Committee in Veterinary Training), JEC (Joint Education Committee), Life Long Learning and Acknowledge veterinarian. Together with another member of the FVE Board, Mr Stephen Ware, he has taken up veterinary profession issues such as as the Veterinary Act, the European Code of Conduct, Ethics, Competition and self-regulation. He is also in charge of following up Communication activities of the Federation.
